Sira Endemics & Remote Bolivia Expedition
Our expedition to the wildest corners of these diverse countries is broken into three parts. First up, we will be the first commercial birding tour to target the Sira endemics of Peru, before heading into Bolivia and using a plane to access Inti Tanager during their peak breeding season when the road is typically closed. After seeing special birds like Green-capped Tanager, Straw-backed Tanager, “Palkachupa" Swallow-tailed Cotinga, and the undescribed “Inambari-Tambopata Antwren", we will finally arrive at the lovely Sadiri Lodge which will see us searching pristine forest for Rufous-vented Ground Cuckoo, Subtropical Pygmy Owl, Bolivian Recurvebill, and more.

Day 1: Arrivals into Lima International Airport (LIM). Afternoon flight to Satipo for overnight.
Day 2: Departing early towards Oventeni, where a decent lodge will be our base for the next four nights. Birding on the way will target Wing-banded Wren, Buff-throated Tody-Tyrant, Creamy-bellied Antwren, and more.
Day 3-4-5-6: Access has been arranged very carefully with permission from all local stakeholders, which is especially important in this region. Thanks to the recent reconnaissance visits by our excellent local guide who is friends with key members of the community here, we are excited to be able to offer the first organised birding tour to visit these mountains. Using 4WD vehicles, initial birding will of course focus on the poorly-known Sira Barbet and Sira Tanager. Exploring the high altitudes could see us finding Rufous-webbed Brilliant and the rare local form of Rufous-brown Solitaire (a likely split), as well as other species such as Cerulean-capped Manakin, Grey-tailed Piha, Scarlet-throated Fruiteater, Fiery-throated Fruiteater, Sharpbill, Blue-browed Tanager, and more. At present the area where Sira Curassow has been seen is off-limits and requires a very long hike, but if the situation changes or if a camp is set up we will attempt to go and search for it. Nights at Oventeni.
Day 7: Drive back to Satipo.
Day 8: Fly back to Lima then on to La Paz for our first night in Bolivia.
Day 9: Flight to Apolo.
Day 10-11-12: Birding the Apolo area searching for Inti Tanager. This is the best time of year for the species, which is most often missed on October tours as they are only just arriving back from their unknown non-breeding grounds. We should also see “Palkachupa" Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Yungas Antwren, the undescribed “Inambari-Tambopata Antwren", Green-capped Tanager, Straw-backed Tanager, and more.
Day 13: Flight back to La Paz. Overnight at La Paz
Day 14: Fly to Rurrenabaque and then drive to Sadiri Lodge, located in the foothills of Madidi National Park with over 450 species recorded. We should be able to begin our exploration this afternoon.
Day 15-16-17: Birding at Sadiri, searching for a suite of rarely-seen species including Subtropical Pygmy Owl, Bolivian Recurvebill, Yungas Tyrannulet, Cinnamon-faced Tyrannulet, a fair chance to see the salvini subspecies of Rufous-vented Ground Cuckoo, and perhaps the exceedingly rare Andean Laniisoma or enigmatic Bush Dog which have both been seen here on occasion.
Day 18: Flight back to La Paz International Airport (LPB), where the tour ends this evening.
