Mexico Birding Tours
One of our favourite countries to run birding tours, mainland Mexico has more than 80 endemic birds and another 130 near-endemics which are found only in one or two other countries. This is an astounding diversity of range-restricted species considering that the much larger United States just over the border barely has 10 endemics! Each region offers something distinct, from the volcanic highlands and pine-oak forests of central Mexico to the lush cloud forests of Oaxaca and the dry thorn-scrub of the Pacific coast. We explore key birding hotspots such as Monterrey, San Blas, the Yucatan Peninsula, and everything inbetween.
Our expert local knowledge produces not only a safe and comfortable journey, but also exquisite culinary delights which no bird tour to Mexico could be without! We're often out well after dark in search of the many nocturnal specialties like Eared Poorwill and Cinereous Owl, but these delicious meals inevitably keep everyone full of energy.

The Ornis Birding Strategy in Mexico
Between our three flagship tours, we target almost all of the extant Mexican endemic birds along with a number of highly-desirable species only shared with the southern United States (like Montezuma Quail and Colima Warbler). We can also arrange custom tours or extensions to look for the remaining birds like Short-crested Coquette and Sinaloa Martin, and also offer an excellent itinerary through the adjoining country of Guatemala.
